New article Datum: Mittwoch, 4 Juli, 2001 um 14:50:16 Pasha is truly living the American dream....... Skating Legend Pasha Oksana Grishuk's years of hard work have paid off. Americans especially loved all sports - and the second largest television viewership, after NFL Football - is for figure skating!. There are many ice skaters who moved to America for looking a new job, so did many of Russian skaters as well. Skaters are no different from anyone else. They want to work and realise their knowledge where they can. In Russia the economy collapsed, ice rinks fell in to disrepair and coaches and skaters moved their life, and working in a place where they can get some job. Amongst the most prized, were the great skaters the world Marina Klimova&Sergei Ponomorenko; Natalia Mishkutjonok, Oksana Kasakova&Artur Dmitriev; Ekaterina Gordeeva; Anjelica Krylova&Oleg Ovsiannikov; Gosha Sur; Ilia Kulik, Irina Lobachova&Ilia Averbuch; Petr Tchernishov; Marina Anissina (who moved to France) and the pride of Mother Russia: Oksana Grishuk - "Pasha", the Two- time (and reigning) Olympic Gold Medal Champion - who went also to the USA. They obtained that most coveted of items - they applied for, and received - a 'green' card' (actually light pink in color!) - but 'green' stood for 'Permanent' US Residency, and freedom to creation in far way America. Some of them like Tchernishov or Sur recieved American pass. But the skaters themselves would like to perform more often at home, and that’s why they now took over. Olympic Champions Artur Dmitriev and Alexei Urmanov both organized shows in their hometown of St. Petersburg, end of April and in the middle of May. It may very well be the beginning of a new tradition. "Pasha" Oksana Grishuk, was born in Odessa, Ukraine in 1972, her father loved soccer, and after 'little Oksanochka' was but six months old - he left her and his wife Ludmilla for a career as a football player. Times were hard, especially for a single mother, but life in Russia in general was hard too. Eight years later Pasha was skating at the Jubilee for President Leonid Brezhnev, she melted the powerful mans heart (he named her 'the little wonder') and Pasha was soon on her way to Moscow, to study sports where she later was awarded Master of Sports, many National and International medals and two diplomas for sport&coach and choreography&producer. Along the way the past Olympic gold medallist in ice dancing and coach Natalie Lineychuk invited Pasha under her wing. Together of working Pasha won an unprecedented (back to back) TWO Olympic Gold Medals ('94 and '98) in ice dancing, FOUR World Championship Gold Medals - and amassed a record 26 gold medals in all, writing a history. At time Pasha lives in Beverly Hills, California. After sensational winning the second Olympic Gold Medals the 'duo' of 'Pasha Oksana Grishuk & Evgeny Platov' was broken, as they were expected the biggest competitors to any of other international stars in figure skating business world, - up by outside forces for that most ancient of reasons - greed, jealousy and money. So what does Pasha do now? Retire? Give up? Never! "I rely now only on myself", she said - and embarks both on a career as a 'solo' skater and a celebrity/ actress in Hollywood. The place where dreams do come true. She is after all a fighter, some 'dark forces' tried to stop her from skating - but did not succeed, only made her more determined to prove them wrong.
